Section 2 of the Stitch Sampler Throw is Completed

This morning I finished the 2nd section of stitches on my stitch sampler throw while I watched the F1 race on tv. The second section has a diamond lattice stitch that creates a really cool texture with knit and purl stitches. This section did give me a little bit of a challenge because there was a few times where I’d get to the end of the row and be off by stitches because I messed up a knit or purl stitch earlier in the row. I would have to knit back and fix that stitch and then reknit the rest of the row.

I ended up knitting 37 rows in this section and that gave it a length of 6″. Between section 1 and 2 I knitted 4 rows to act as a border between the 2 sections. Here is the pattern for this section.

Divider Rows between section 1 and 2:

Premier’s New Yarn Spice Shop

Earlier this week Premier teased a new yarn was releasing at the end of the week and I couldn’t wait to see what the new yarn was going to be. Finally Friday got here and I saw the new yarn on their website and it instantly had my heart. This yarn looks like it will be perfect for knitting my Ross hat in the #5 weight version. They are calling the yarn a #6 weight yarn but the yardage to weigh is similar to some of their other #5 weights. I guess I’ll see what its like when I have the yarn in my hands. Spice Shop is a self striping 80% acrylic 20% wool blend roving yarn. There’s 109 yards of yarn in the 100 gram ball. There’s 10 different colors in the collection and I love all of them but these 4 colors are the ones I really, really like and will be the first to go on my needles.

I hope my order gets here pretty quickly because I’m really excited about these yarns.

Completing the First Section of the Stitch Sampler Throw

I did it! The first section of stitches of the stitch sampler throw is now complete. Well it’s been completed for a few days now but I am just now getting some time to get the update posted here. I couldn’t put this section down and had it done in just a couple of days. I’m trying to get through 2 sections of stitches each week. That should keep me on track to have this completed by the end of September. Just in time for the cool fall weather here in Wisconsin.

The first section of stitches is a broken rib basket weave section and it ended up being approximately 5″ long. I did have intentions of making every section of stitches 6″ long but I decided to mix it up and the lengths will vary based on the stitches. Here is the pattern for this section of the throw.

Row 1: K7, (P1, K2) repeat stitches in () to last 8 stitches, P1, K7

Row 2: K7, Purl to last 7 stitches, K7

Row 3: K7, (P4, K2) repeat stitches in () to last 11 stitches, P4, K7

Row 4: K7, Purl to last 7 stitches, K7

Row 5: K7, (P1, K2), repeat stitches in () to last 8 stitches, P1, K7

Row 6: K7, Purl to last 7 stitches, K7

Row 7: K7, (P1, K2, P3) repeat stitches in () to last 11 stitches, P1, K2, P1, K7

Row 8: K7, Purl to last 7 stitches, K7

Repeat Rows 1-8 3 more times (total of 32 rows knitted for this section)

The Beginning of the Stitch Sampler Throw

I spent my Sunday afternoon picking out different knitting stitch patterns to use in my stitch sampler throw. I picked 9 different ones that will make up the blanket. I intend to make each stitch section approximately 6″ long.  I’ll make posts as I complete each section of stitches.

The first section of the throw is the bottom border edge. For this portion I casted on 192 stitches on US 10 knitting needles. I’m using Addi Rocket Squared circular needles (Amazon Affiliate Link). I’m using a 60″ circular needle for this project.

For the bottom edge I knit all the stitches for 16 rows. This gives a bottom border edge that is approximately 2-1/2″ long.

Getting Started on a Stitch Sampler Throw

My next knitting project is going to a be a stitch sampler throw made with Herrschners Worsted 8 Heathers yarn that will be approximately 50″ x 60″. To make sure I purchased enough yarn for the blanket I grabbed a ball of the Heathers yarn in the color Saffron and made a small size blanket to act as a gauge swatch for the larger size project. I ended up using 174 grams of the Saffron yarn and that is approximately 75% of the ball of yarn. The finished size on the small blanket ended up being 20″ x 26″.

For the 50″ x 60″ throw I ordered 6 balls in the color Woodland. I really like working with the Worsted 8 Heathers yarn. It’s an excellent quality 100% acrylic yarn that is soft and squishy. The yarn is great to knit with and feels great against the skin.

The needles I’ll be using for this project are Addi Rocket Squared US 10 (Amazon Affiliate Link). I really like going up a needle size or 2 with my knitting projects when I want to create a fabric that has a really nice drape to it. I also really enjoy using the Addi Rocket Squared needles. The finish on these needles is so smooth and I love how the square shaped needles feel in my hands. I find them much more comfortable to use than round needles.

Right now I’m currently picking out all the different stitches I’ll be using in the throw. The plan is to have 9 sections of different stitches for the throw. The small blanket only had 7 sections of stitches. Come back as I make more posts with updates of the throw project. I’m trying to have this finished by the end of September.
